Transport for London assume it is an error - 19 May 2004

In Transport for London's (TfL) response to the SRA plans for the new Integrated Kent Franchise, they support our view that redrawing most services from Slade Green to Dartford is completely unacceptable. Their report viewable at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/rail/downloads/pdf/ikf.pdf says "The service specification appears to indicate that all station services will not run east of Slade Green except in the peak thus depriving Belvedere, Erith and Slade Green of direct services to Dartford. Our assumption is that this is an error; it is completely unacceptable for any such withdrawal of a through facility and we would like confirmation of the exact specification." Lets hope the SRA do change their plans...

Slade Green could lose rail link to Dartford - 06 April 2004

Under current plans being proposed by the SRA for the new Integrated Kent Franchise, Slade Green could lose a regular train service to Dartford when phase 2 of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link opens in 2007. According to the consultant document on the SRA web site (click here for the 938k PDF file) Slade Green would regularly receive 4 trains per hour. Two trains an hour would be scheduled to call at Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge, Lewisham, Blackheath, Charlton, Woolwich Dockyard, Woolwich Arsenal, Plumstead, Abbey Wood, Belvedere, Erith and finally terminating at Slade Green. A further 2 trains per hour will operate (like today) in both directions between Cannon Street, Greenwich, Woolwich, Slade Green, Crayford, Sidcup, Hither Green, New Cross, and back to Cannon Street. These services would call at all stations except Lewisham. Because the service from Charing Cross will terminate at Slade Green, we will have NO DIRECT LINK to Dartford, which is only one stop away.

Under current proposals Slade Green will receive a total of 4 extra trains during the 3 hour morning and evening peak periods. These trains will run from Cannon Street to Dartford calling at all stations via Greenwich and Woolwich Arsenal including Slade Green to Dartford. Effectively meaning there will only be 4 trains a day from Slade Green to Dartford.

As we all know, the train service between Belvedere, Erith, Slade Green to Dartford is well used during both peak and off-peak period. Cutting the connection between Slade Green and Dartford would increase the 5 minute journey to 25 minutes on the bus. This proposal would also affect travelers from Belvedere and Erith traveling to Dartford, who also will lose a direct rail link.

Please write to SRA with your views about the trains services in the Kent area before it is too late. You can send your views to ikfresponses@sra.gov.uk or write to: Jackie Nixon, Strategic Rail Authority, 55 Victoria Street, London, SW1H OEU. The consultation period closes on April 23, 2004.

A request from Roy Flint

09 November 2001
I am looking for a couple who used to live in Slade Green who was my mother and fathers friends. Sadly my parents are dead now but Icontinue the search, all i know is that they are called "avril and norman". She was disabled as my mother was hense the friendship. I believe he worked for a paper. I think he was definitely scottish as he visited there very often. They adopted a child called nicky, maybe? He was very musical and I think he played for a group, possibly. I have scoured the net for hours and found nothing to help. Maybe just maybe you can help.
I have talked to the local shop keeper of londis but he has drawn a blank. I know its a long shot but I thought I would give it a try, the era was about late 60s, early 70s. They visited south yorkshire (us) on the odd occation and previously visited us in wouldham where we lived on hall road.
If you have any infomration please e-mail royflint@ukonline.co.uk , thanks again.

The suburb where one in four voted BNP

Guardian Unlimited - May 27, 2003
For a loser, Colin Smith is a happy man. He has every right to be. Representing a minority party campaigning on a single local issue with only a handful of activists to help get his message across, he last week pulled off an electoral coup.
